I'm a Supporter

Every Team needs supporters, especially parents and relatives of the players.   Teams that are supported well tend to perform better.   There are some rules/guidelines that we need our supporters to follow, namely:

The principles below should be used as a guide (but not limited to) for Parents / Guardians as members of Eschol Park Football Club:

  • Encourage a child to participate, but do not force them if they are not willing.
  • Focus on the child’s honest effort and performance rather than the overall outcome of the game.   Always find the positive, never look for the negative!
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake.
  • Remember that children are involved in sport for their enjoyment, not the enjoyment of the parent/guardian.
  • Children learn best by example, applaud good play by all teams.
  • Do not publicly question the Referees or Assistant Referees judgement or honesty.   If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the club committee.   Remember the Referees give up their time for your child’s enjoyment.
  • Follow the requests/instructions of all officials, if you feel you are being hard done by, take it to a committee member at the clubhouse, don't challenge it in front of the children.
  • Eliminate verbal and physical abuse from all sporting activities and remember that in most cases, the Referees are also still children and therefore are covered under the Child Protection Act 1998.   Breaches of this Act will not be tolerated by the Committee.
  • Show appreciation for your coaches, managers, officials and administrators, all of whom are volunteers, without them, your child would not participate.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  • Encourage children always to play according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • Actively assist the club when asked to do so.
